Neural network in the "Bureau of Contacts" game is used as a weapon of murder

Not so long ago, the "artificial intelligence" (AI) phrase was something from the realm of science fiction and we perceived human-computer chess confrontations as something one-time and exceptional.

But today, the neural network makes it possible to reach heights previously inaccessible to humans, and already entire nations are engaged in a race of AI weapons, which Cambridge researchers Stephen Cave (Director, Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at University of Cambridge) and Sean O hEigeartaigh (Director, AI: Futures and Responsibility Programme at University of Cambridge) called one of the most likely causes of World War III

The U.S. Department of Defense uses the "Command: Modern Operations" game with powerful artificial intelligence, where the precise parameters of combat equipment (type of missile range, speed of aircraft) can be adjusted, and the AI plays millions of combat scenarios to find the most effective combination of forces and their application for victory.

In the current war in Ukraine, AI is already helping to assess the combat situation, shoot down airplanes, and strike at the enemy. For example, autonomous weapons (drones, smart cruise missiles, land and sea robotic units, air defense systems) are the most ambiguous group, because such systems can make their own killing decisions. The games again help to train the future drone operators.

Not surprisingly, it was in Ukraine that they announced the creation of the first game in which a neural network is trained to kill - "Bureau of Contacts". According to the developers AI makes a decision on this based on the actions of players and even their words.

According to the description, players will dress the uniform of bureau agents investigating paranormal phenomena. Artificial intelligence controls the behavior of the ghost, giving it the ability to talk to players, trying to drive them crazy or kill them.

Along with this generative technology is also used to provide a variety of locations - for each mission in the campaign the game will create a unique environment and layout from a vast archive of manually prepared rooms.

If before it was easy to say that it's just a game, now you start to wonder how realistic the AI development used in the game is for real life. The more interesting it will be to see it in June in Early Access and get an answer to this and other questions.
